چکیده

1 Auer et al recently showed a striking, near sinusoidal annual variation in the number of active magnetic resonance imaging lesions in 53 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Their results provide solid support for past, less-well documented claims of seasonal fluctuation in MS disease activity. Furthermore, the seasonal fluctuation in lesion activity may provide an important clue for identifying environmental factors which are part of MS etiology.

Vitamin D status predicts new brain magnetic resonance imaging activity in multiple sclerosis.

OBJECTIVE We sought to determine whether vitamin D status is associated with developing new T2 lesions or contrast-enhancing lesions on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS). METHODS EPIC is a 5-year longitudinal MS cohort study at the University of California at San Francisco. Participants had clinical evaluations, brain MRI, and blood draws annually. Fr...

The Optimization of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Pulse Sequences in Order to Better Detection of Multiple Sclerosis Plaques

Background and objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most sensitive technique to detect multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques in central nervous system. In some cases, the patients who were suspected to MS, Whereas MRI images are normal, but whether patients don’t have MS plaques or MRI images are not enough optimized enough in order to show MS plaques? The aim of the current study is ...

Multiple Sclerosis Lesions Segmentation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging using Ensemble Support Vector Machine (ESVM)

Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) syndrome is a type of Immune-Mediated disorder in the central nervous system (CNS) which destroys myelin sheaths, and results in plaque (lesion) formation in the brain. From the clinical point of view, investigating and monitoring information such as position, volume, number, and changes of these plaques are integral parts of the controlling process this dise...

Development of hypointense lesions on T1-weighted spin-echo magnetic resonance images in multiple sclerosis: relation to inflammatory activity.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether degree of inflammatory activity in multiple sclerosis, expressed by frequency of gadolinium enhancement, has prognostic value for development of hypointense lesions on T1-weighted spin-echo magnetic resonance images, a putative marker of tissue destruction. DESIGN Cohort design with long-term follow-up. Thirty-eight patients with multiple sclerosis who in the pas...

Fingolimod versus High Dose Interferon Beta-1a in Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: High dose Interferon Beta and Fingolimod are efficient in Multiple Sclerosis. Objectives: Comparison the efficacy of these two drugs in patients with treatment failure on low dose interferon beta. Materials and Methods: The MS patients (McDonald criteria 2010) with the history of unbeneficial treatment on low dose interferon beta participated in this randomized clinical trial ...
